Bay Wise Gardens was founded In September of 2015 and is run by Lauren Bennett. She is a Bay Area Native with a life-long love of plants.
Bay Wise focuses on sustainability within the landscape using water saving techniques to save you money such as drip irrigation and appropriate plant choices for your soil type and sun exposure. We also implement organic practices such as compost and non-toxic pesticides to maintain a healthy ecosystem within your garden.
In 2006, Lauren earned a Bachelors of Science degree from UC Berkeley in Conservation and Resource Studies with a focus in sustainable agriculture. She also earned a Minor Degree in Geography.
In 2010 she earned a certificate in Permaculture Design and worked in rural Costa Rica and Mexico on two different Permaculture farms.
From 2011 to 2015, she has taken over fifteen courses at Merritt College in Oakland in the Landscape Horticulture department. These courses include: Edible Landscaping, Aesthetic Pruning, Permaculture Design, Landscape Horticulture, Irrigation, Spring Natives, Fall Natives, Plant taxonomy, Plant Terminology, Plant Propagation, Mediterranean Plant ID, Tree ID and culture, Landscape Design, Computer Assisted Design: Vectorworks and more.
In 2014, she worked as an apprentice pruning fruit trees, wisteria, roses, and maples in a residential garden in Oakland. With all of this experience, Lauren is well suited to help you with any of your gardening needs.
From 2012-2015 she worked as the Assistant Project Manager at The Watershed Nursery which is a plant nursery that exclusively sells California Native Plants suitable for The Bay Area.
In 2012, Lauren was an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) intern at Children's Fairyland in Oakland, where she learned a number of common pests in the landscape and the safe, organic methods of removal.
